March 2017 Favourites

Admire someone else’s beauty without questioning your own
— anon

I don’t generally do monthly favourites but this month I’ve got a few things that I’ve really been enjoying. Some of them I just started using this past month, actually looking at my list most of them seem to be new. Maybe I’ll add it a few faves from February to balance it out a bit.

March Faves

ABH x Nicole Guerriero | Glow Kit

March Favourites

I did a quick review on this palette when it first came out, you can read it here. At first I was struggling with how to use it, because I found that regardless of which brush I used I would be left with glitter flecks on my face and a rough looking highlight. I wanted that smooth creamy looking highlight I just couldn’t figure out how to do it. Until one day in frustration I used my finger to pat on the colour where I wanted it and volia, intense colour without the glitter fallout. After I applied the colour I would use a brush and buff it out to soften the edges. They also work great as eyeshadows, Day Dream is gorgeous on the lid, if you have the palette I would suggest you try it.

Makeup Forever | Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder

I have a review coming for this guy, but so far I do like it. It softens and blurs the look of my pores and doesn’t look cakey on my oily skin. I don’t want to say to much because I do have an in-depth post coming up soon, I just want to test it a bit more and try it in a few different ways.

Too Faced | Sweet Peach Palette

This month I’ve been working with this palette, just because I want to use it more. I don’t want to sound repetitive but I have a follow-up post planned for this guy. In general I find that it’s a nice palette for neutral looks. I have been able to pull together a few brighter looks using the green and of course the peach shades.

Makeup Geek Contour Powder | Scandal and Half Hearted

I love this guy, it’s a nice rich deep colour that blends wonderfully. I got it as apart of my Makeup Geek haul, it was one of their damaged items. I use Scandal to contour my cheekbones and around my hairline, then use Half Hearted whichis a bit lighter to contour my nose. This way I don’t end up with an intense nose contour that I can’t blend out, I don’t like that look. I want my contour to not look like contour, you feel me.

Josie Maran | Argan oil

I got this guy as a Sephora 100 points perk. I love using it as the last step in my skin care routine, both for the morning and evening. I just use a few drops on my finger tips and pat it into my skin. I’m left with skin that looks glowy and dewy, read slightly oily and greasy. It doesn’t feel greasy or even on my skin though. I haven’t had any reaction from using it, I liked it so much that I ended up purchasing some argan oil from The Ordinary skin care line.  A review post on that order is in the works.

Quo | Setting Spray

I’ll admit i’m a little biased on this one, as I’ve never had a setting spray before.(Edit: Just remembered I’ve used the ELF one before,it wasn’t that remarkable) I have my Mac Fix+ but that’s not a setting spray. I actually got this as a free gift when I went into Shopper Drug Mart, I can’t remember what they said it was for, but it came in a little pouch with a sample of the Pixi Glow Tonic and a full sized Maybelline mascara. Anyhow back to the setting spray, I have uber oily skin so sometimes things just fade then their on my face but everything even my highlighter is still around hours after I’ve applied my makeup. it doesn’t have a fragrance that I notice and the mister is pretty nice, you don’t want it too close to your face but otherwise it’s good.

Mac | Fix+ Finishing Spray

I’ve literally used this spray every time I’ve applied makeup this month.  As I’ve mentioned before I have oily skin so I tend to apply powders to help mattify my skin and to keep my skin mattified throughout the day. For this reason sometimes I might look a little powder heavy, so I use this spray to help combat that. Generally I use it at the end of my makeup when I’ve finished but lately I’ve tried to apply it mid-routine to see if that makes any difference.

My On the Go Makeup Pouch

I am obsessed with this little guy. It’s the perfect size to travel with and can fit in pretty much all of my day to day handbags. It also holds so much stuff. The only thing that I’m not that thrilled about is the eyeshadow palette, it’s just the right size to fit into the pouch but i’m so so about the quality of the shadows, it will do for now though. I do have a blog post planned for this guy because as I said I’m in love with it.

Mac | Mixing Medium for Eyeliner

Feburary Favourites 2017

I haven’t had this guy for too long, as I picked him up in the 25% off sale that they just had. I didn’t grab a lot just this and one of the mini fix + sprays. I picked up this mixing medium because I read in one of the reviews that it’s great to apply to the eyelid as an eyeshadow primer of sorts. The reviewer said that it really helped to prolong the wear time. It lasted fairly well on my lids but I did get some fading in my crease where it tend to be pretty oily. However I do love to actually mix it with my shadow and then apply it to the lid, you don’t want to use to much though, it’s pretty potent, and it holds on for a long time once it dries down.

February Faves

J. One | Jelly Cleanser

I love this cleanser, it’s so simple and basic, but it does a great job of cleansing my skin whether I use it in the morning to gently wash my face or as my second cleanser to remove the rest of my makeup. It consistently does a good job and never ever leaves my skin feeling stripped or tight. In fact my skin always feels soft and smooth after using it.

Hylamide | High Efficiency Cleanser

This guy right here is great. At first I didn’t think much of it but then it just amazed me. When paired with a good second cleanser this removes all trace of my makeup. I do prefer to use it in the shower because the steady stream of water helps it emulsify better, making it easier to remove. I have a blog post where I go in to more detail about this cleanser and the J.One cleanser you can read it here.

NIOD | Superoxide Dismutase Saccharide Mist

This mist was a life saver for me in the colder months. Whenever my skin was itchy and dry I would mist it and it really helped to keep that area moisturized and I was itch free. I use it daily both in the morning and evening, if I’m using an chemical exfoliants I’ll apply it after them, if not then I apply right after cleansing before anything else.

Tarte | Tartelette in Bloom Palette

I love the texture of the shadows in this palette. they are smooth and creamy to the touch. They apply beautifully and give me no issues with pigmentation or wear time. It’s a great everyday neutrals palette, it’s got your mattes and of course some shimmers thrown in. I won’t wax poetic about this palette because it’s pretty well known. It is worth the hype in my opinion.

Essie Gel Couture | Surrounded by Studs

I really enjoy how this polish applies and how it wears. The brush is nice and wide, the colour is rich and saturated. I had full opacity in one coat, mind you the coats were a little bit thicker but not too much. It did last for a couple of days without chipping but honesty the wear time was average.
