Indie and Melanin | Indie Wishlist

Looxi Beauty

For the past few months I’ve been thinking about the direction of my blog, where it is currently and what I want to do with it. I thought about what my original intents were when I first started the blog and if i was accomplishing them. One of the things that I wanted to talk about when I first started was indie makeup and more specifically how they look on someone with a deeper skin tone. Things have improved greatly since I first started though, indie brands though social media have become more readily available, and a bit mainstream in the sense that there is more information about the products along with them being easier to access, not in all cases but for a lot of them.

That being said I still have a love for the indie brands and I do want to feature them more on my blog, I’ve got a few posts scattered here and there and some still in draft mode. For the next little while one of my goals will be to try and feature a post at least once a month about an indie brand. Why just once a month you ask, well for two reasons, one is quite often the shipping to Canada is ridiculously high, I’m talking $25 US high, another reason is because these brands are smaller they often do things in house so they create, press and package their product before shipping it off, which of course takes time. Lastly its the shipping time, depending on where it’s coming from it can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks for something to arrive, maybe even more if I have it shipped to an alternate address in the states.

New releases are a constant in the makeup community whether it’s larger mainstream brand or a smaller indie brand. There have been a few releases that I’ve got my eyes on, I’m hoping that none of them are limited edition because I want to spread out the purchases a bit and preferably wait until the companies are having a sale of some sort of when I can use a discount code.

So what’s on my Indie Wishlist.

Suva Beauty Rose Period Palette

I saw the full reveal of this palette on Angelica Nyqvist’s New Makeup Releases Youtube video and like her these are shades that I’m often drawn to. I like the colour selection, the packaging and the fact that Suva is a Canadian company so the shipping costs won’t be too bad. I’ve seen and heard great things about the brand for years but just haven’t made the commitment yet to purchasing anything, I was going to pick up their Block Party palette but talked myself out of it. I have no concerns about pigmentation or even application. I’m excited to pick this guy up, though knowing myself I’m going to want to grab a few more things, so I think I’m going to wait until they have a sale or promo.

This is another Canadian company that I’ve had my eyes on, since I first saw their Paleo palette. When I saw the pictures for these shadows I thought, I think this is the day I make my first purchase and I did. I bought the bundle of shadows, there are 13 in total, 11 of which are new colours and 2 are from another collection. There are duo chromes and pinks and berries, just colours that I’m generally drawn to. The swatches do look good, the shadows seem rich in saturation and pigmentation which is something I’m always looking for, it means that it will show well on my completion and not look like ashy or grey.

Love Luxe Beauty Pretty Powerful Palette

Would you annoyed if I told you that Love Luxe Beauty is another one of those brands that I’ve had my eyes on for the past year. The one thing that has stopped me is the shipping costs, I think that I will send any orders I make to my aunt’s house, the only problem with that is I don’t know when I would be able to get my order. Anyways lets talk about the palette, I like that this palette has a combination of the different eyeshadow formulas that they have, I’m especially excited to see their new hybrid formula in there. Colour wise the scheme is purple and pink with a touch of neutral shades, I think what will make this palette stand out though is the formulation and saturation of the shades. I have high hopes and expectations for this palette.

For now I’m trying to cut back, so I’m not sure when I’ll purchase the Suva Beauty or Love Luxe Palette. There are far too many things that appeal to my eyes. I don’t want to purchase everything because I don’t want to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of products I own.

Is there anything from the Indie spectrum that you have your eyes on?
