Polish and Melanin | Winner's Nail Polish Haul & Mini Review

I want to paint my nails, but I can’t decide which one of my 200 polishes to use..
— Rimmel

I’ve purchased most of my nail polish collection from Winners through the years. Winners or Marshalls or TJ Maxx whichever one you have access to, tends to have a great selection of nail polishes from various brands, some big name like Butter London and some tried and true brands like China Glaze or OPI. Whichever brand you prefer, you will always get it for a lower price than you’ll find in other stores.

I purchased three Zoya polishes, an Essie polish, two from Illamasqua and one from Butter London. This was my first purchase for both Illamasauqa and Butter London.

Five of the polishes I purchased are in the blue/green spectrum and are a creamy shimmer finish

Zoya Polishes

Ray- This looks a shimmering hunter green in the bottle with a little bit of blue thrown in, when applied it looks true that description. When applied it was very sheer and a bit streaky but was opaque in two coats. I do like this colour and think that it’s appropriate for the holiday season, I would pair it with an accent nail just to break it up a bit has the colour is pretty dark.

Holly- This polish looks a bit like it’s name sake, but with a soft shimmer. It’s a nice mid-tone green, vibrant but not neon. This polish is also a great colour to wear during the holidays, I think it would lend itself nicely to Christmas themed nail art. When applied it was  sheer but was opaque in two coats.

Noel- The name of this polish was removed so I’m not certain what it is. I would describe it as a deep blue mixed with a sliver shimmer. On the nail it looks the same. It applied the same way the other two shades did, sheer in one coat and opaque after two, I do wonder if a third coat is applied if the colour would be deepened.

Illamasqua

Viridian- This one looks a bit similar to the Zoya polish Ray, but this one has a green undertone as opposed to the blue that is in the Zoya polish. I loved this polish it was opaque in one coat and spread smoothly when I  applied it to my nail. This was the first time I tried a polish form Illamasqua and I will definitely be on the look out for more. I would say that this is a nice colour for winter, not necessarily the holidays.

Purity- Is a bright vibrant neon peach colour. It looks a little bit more muted in the bottle than it is on the nail. This polish applied a bit sheer, but built up nicely in two coats. This guy screams summer.

Butter London and Essie

Inky Six- This is my first Butter London polish, I have to say that I do like it. In the bottle it looks like a deep blue glitter with some silver glitter, though when it’s applied to the nail, the silver glitter is more prominent. I’m sure that with three or four coats, the deep blue that is seen in the bottle could be achieved. When applied the glitter was nicely deposited all over nail, not clumpy or chunky, applied by itself was opaque in two coats.

Power Clutch- There’s something about grey polish that always gets me. This grey is on the cool toned side, and is creamy formula with no shimmer or glitter. To get full opacity you do need to apply two coats, you might be able to get away with one depending on how thickly you apply the colour. However if you use thinner coats then  two will be needed.

The Illamasqua Viridian is my favourite shade of the bunch, because of the colour and how it applies. Do you like any of them? Which would you wear?
