Fall 2016 Pantone Colours in Nail Polish

I was surfing through pinterest and came across a colour board for one of the pantone 2016 fall colours and was inspired to try and see if I have those colours in my nail polish stash. It started with the nail polish and then moved to “I wonder if I have those colours are in my closet’ I pulled a few pieces that I felt matched the colours or were close to the colour. For some of the shades like Bodacious and Airy Blue I didn’t have much luck but for other’s like Lush Meadow and Riverside I had a lot of close picks.

I found 8 out of the 10 colours, Riverside and Spicy Mustard were the two I had difficulty with. I do have grey nail polish but I have nothing close to the mustard colour. I’ve been seeing splashes of that colour in stores and even had a blouse in that colour but alas I wasn’t wearing it and donated it.

I would describe Sharkskin as a medium tone cool grey, just one of the few neutral colours this year. I chose LA Splash Grey chaser. (Please excuse the state of the bottle I had a minor mishap with an exploding bottle of purple nail polish)

Airy Blue is a light icy blue with a hint of grey, to give it some more body.  I went with Orly’s Aspen, which has a bit of shimmer, which reminds me a little bit of ice or frost.

Aurora Red is bright and vibrant but doesn’t give you fire engine red. It’s a sophisticated colour, rich in depth. My pick is CND’s Rouge Red

Warm Taupe comes across as a muted tan brown with slight grey undertones. The name is pretty accurate in it’s description. It’s a nice neutral tone to anchor all of the colour that this season is bursting with. I’m using Essie’s Picked Perfect.

Dusty Cedar is a lovely dusty rose colour. I know they say this is a fall colour but I’ve seen variations of this shade throughout the summer, and like then I’m just drawn to this shade. It’s feminine without frailty. I’ve gone with China Glaze, Passion for Petals.

To me Lush Meadow is a vibrant forest green. It’s rich and full bodied, a gorgeous colour for fall and for the winter. It puts me in the mind of pine needles and evergreen trees. The colour I’ve chosen is China Glaze Jolly Jolly, it does have a hint of shimmer but I think it’s a good match.

Potter’s Clay comes across to me as a rust orange, a nice deep orange with a bit of depth definitely a colour that exemplifies the fall season. The closet colour that I could find in my collection was this Color Club polish that has unfortunately lost it’s name, I would describe it has a soft muted orange.

Bodacious to me is a lilac, lavender combo, you’ve got the vibrancy and brightness of lilac with a hint of the lavender to tone it down a bit, without desaturating the colour. My take on this colour is Essie’s Splash of Grenadine

Close but no cigar

To me Riverside is a cobalt blue with grey undertones, I guess that’s why Pantone describes it has a 'cool and calming hue’. The only colour I have that comes close to this would be Orly’s La Playa, it’s the cobalt without the grey.

I've seen a lot of greens and mustards in stores not so much of the lilac and sky blue colours.

Which colours will you be wearing this fall and winter?
