Day Dreaming | My Dream Apartment

I saw this idea from a 30 day blog prompt post, the question was originally what does your dream house look like? But since I’m not financially at the place where I can realistically look at owning a home, I thought I would do it for my apartment since I plan on moving out this year.

I already have a list of the things that I would like or love in my dream place.

1.       Architectural details like exposed brick, crown moulding, wooden beams maybe even a fireplace

2.       Natural sunlight, lots of big windows (that are insulated properly)

3.       Spacious, preferably two bedrooms and den that I could use has an office

4.       Well-kept and maintained, I don’t want to be scared to go to home

5.       Built in features, like book shelves and storage

6.       Storage, lots of storage – this way things that aren’t used too often can be put away but are easily within reach

7.       In-suite laundry

8.       Nice outdoor area whether it be a terrace or a backyard

9.       Allows pets (I want a cat and a dog when I move out)

10.   Great landlord and nice neighbours

11.   A spacious and well-lit kitchen

When I think of what I want my dream place to be like, I start to think about how time I will spend there, who’s going to come over and what activities I plan to do. So first question, I’ll spend quite a bit of time there, I don’t go out much and do prefer to be at home. So I want my place to feel homey and lived it. Not cluttered or dirty but for it to look like someone lives there rather than it looking like a show home. I want the vibe of my place to be warm and inviting, though not too inviting.  I’m an introvert at some point I will get sick of you and want you to leave my house.

Next question, who’s coming over. Mainly my family, we’ll have some movie nights and family dinners. I want there to be space to accommodate them, I’ve got a handful or so of siblings so we’ll need seating a sofa alone just won’t do. I also want there to be the space or room available if they’re going to spend the night or even the weekend.

Lastly, activities. I have a few hobbies like soap making and baking which means that I will need space for supplies and also for when I’m making soap or lotions, a tight cramped kitchen is not your friend when you have a ton of ingredients.

Décor wise the built in bookcases means that all of my books will have a nice home where I can display them, the additional storage again means that my soap making and other supplies for my hobbies have a nice area where they can be stored out of the way.

I’m thinking velvet, glass and metals for the décor. I’ve got my eye on a blue tufted velvet sofa, glass and gold tables and copper accents. Again an overall vibe of warmth and comfort. Textures playing off of each other, pops of colour and a few statement pieces. My idea of the perfect place to call home. You'll notice that I have a thing for chairs.
