Melanin and Makeup | Sephora August VIB Sale

So Sephora is having a sale near the end of August, which is not usually a time that they have a sale, so I’m not mad at it. Though I do hope that they still have the November sale. It’s the start of Christmas season in my head, Black Friday, VIB sale they’re tied together in my mind.

Any who, I don’t have a long list of things in my cart to buy, just a few that I’ve had my eye on.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina

The surprise breakout star though is the ABH Norvina palette. I heard so many lack lustre reviews on it that I thought for sure it wouldn’t work too well with my skin tone. Reviewers said that they shades weren’t deep enough, didn’t have enough depth, even the pigmentation came into question.

Now I don’t know if the palette that I swatched the other day in Sephora was special but I tell you that those swatches convinced me to put the palette on my buy list. Even my best friend who was with me and is not a makeup enthusiast like myself, was impressed with how it looked when I swatched it on my hand. Yes, I realize that swatches can’t speak to how the shadows will perform on my eyes, but the concerns I had about suitability based on colour selection and pigmentation were laid to rest. So the ABH Norvina, purple palette is definitely in my basket.

The Milk Blur + Set Matte Loose Setting Powder

Milk makeup hasn’t really been on my radar, most of the products they offer don’t appeal to me or suit the way that I do my makeup. The light breezy coverage product isn’t my deal. I have dark circles that I want covered, no I don’t want to look dewey, I’ve got oily skin that already happens anyway. So when they came out with this loose powder I didn’t pay it much mind, but I saw some reviews and I became intrigued. It smoothes and mattifies which I love. They also have it in a deeper shade so they chances of me looking ashy are slim.

Lately I’ve had a thing for loose powders, so this appealed to me because I do want to stay matte throughout the day, and I don’t want my makeup to transfer or separate on my skin and this claims to prevent those things from happening. I also think the price is pretty good as far as mid-range setting powders go.

And that’s it, my list is surprisingly small. I’ve gone through but these are the only things that I’m excited about purchasing.

Are you picking up anything at the VIB sale? What have you had your eyes on?
