Melanin and Makeup | My Simplified Summer Makeup Routine

my simplified summer makeup routine

As fall quickly approaches I thought I would share with you my simplified makeup routine. That is the basic or foundation makeup that I’ve been wearing this past summer. On most days when I head out it’s to run errands or take my daily walk so nothing that needs a full face of makeup. Though technically I am wearing a full face, it just doesn’t look that way.

My main focus with this routine is to erase my under eye dark circles, darken my brows and lashes and then add some depth and dimension with a light dusting of blush and bronzer. For the most part I’ve forgone the obvious use of contour especially on my nose.

It’s a fairly simple process that takes little time to accomplish, after doing it for pretty much the whole summer I’ve got it down to an art, I can finish it in under 5-10 minutes, it depends if I start adding anything extra.

I apply a primer, right now I don’t have a favourite, but I tend to reach for the YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer mainly because I want to see if it lives up to the hype. After that I swipe on a small amount of my Tarte Shape Tape concealer, I apply it to my under eyeto even and brighten that area, I also apply a bit between my brows and down the bridge of my nose. While I wait for it to dry out a little bit ( a Jackie Aina tip to maximize the coverage of the concealer) I do my brows. My brow routine is pretty simple, I take a stiff pencil brush, dab it into my dark brown brow powder and flick it through my brow hairs.

The hair in my brows is sparse so my goal is to darken them which is what this process achieves. After doing my brows I move back to my concealer and blend that in with round a kabuki brush, I set my under eyes lightly, then I apply some mascara and maybe a baby wing and my eyes are done.

For the rest of my face I sometimes grab my Laura Mercier Candle Glow powder, it adds the barest glow to my skin. I then follow that up by apply my Estee Edit bronzer and a light dusting of blush. I liberally apply some Mac Fix + and my Quo setting spray and thats it. Fini.

This is the foundation of my routine, products and even the order might change but the process remains the same, depending on my mood I might add in more steps such as cream contour, highlight and eyeshadows but again it depends on the day and the occasion.
