On Repeat

7 Themes or trends that just seem to be on repeat in my wardrobe.

Have you ever noticed that there just seems to be certain things you just keep buying when it comes to your closet, maybe you love the colour orange and have an array of pieces from jackets, to cardigan’s to tank tops. Or maybe you’ve found that a certain cut of jeans just does it for you.

These are the things that I purchase time and time again in different variations, from different stores and maybe even different countries.

Horizontal Stripes

As I was sorting through my clothes this past month, taking out my Fall/Winter clothes and putting away my Spring/Summer things I noticed that there were a lot of stripes going on. On sweaters, on cardigans, on long sleeve tops and on tee’s. I just can’t get enough of horizontal stripes apparently. Thin, thick and medium they run the gamut. It’s a styling element that I am drawn to, because my frame is small I don’t have the concern of horizontal stripes making me look wider and though I’m petitethey don’t make me appear smaller or shorter either.

I haven’t done a total tally but it’s a lot at least 20 pieces have horizontal stripes.

Crew Neck tops

When I was younger in my teens I would always wear v neck tops, as I got older though and came to the sad realization that my boobs just weren’t going to get any bigger I put away the v neck for the crew neck. I’ve come to love the crew neck and just seem to gravitate to tops with that neck line, I like the way it frames my collar bones and makes me feel a little more put together even if I’m casually dressed.

Grey

I seem to be not so secretly in love with the colour grey. I do prefer Charcoal grey, it give a dressier put together feel getting dressed. I do have varying shades from Heather, to Dove grey, I do tend to lean toward cool tone greys, which tend to have a blue undertone. Grey after Black is my favourite shade to wear, it’s effortless but looks like you tried, which I’m all about- I want to look put together but not spend a great deal of time putting myself together. Generally something I’m wearing on any given day will have some grey on it.

Denim

Jeans, are something that I didn’t get into until my mid-twenties. I kid you not, I used to wear dress pants more than jeans when I was in College, and they were just more comfortable to me and fit me better. Then I started at my current job where the dress is casual and I found Jeans. Now I love them and have to actively stop myself from purchasing more. Dark wash and black jeans are my favourite. I do love my Guess and Parasuco jeans but one of my favourite pairs comes from Smart-Set, it’s got a dark blue wash with zipper details on the foot. In second place is my distressed Guess jeans, these are a medium wash and oh so soft and comfy, I would prefer if they had a bit more stretch at the waist, just to allow for weight gain. I pretty much just live in skinny jeans, for my petite frame they just work the best, I have a one two straight leg, but the vast majority of my jeans are skinny fit.

Long Sleeve Tee’s

Long sleeve tee’s are my ride or die. They’re great on their own or under a sweater or cardigan. I love them. My favourites come again from Smart-Set (which sadly has almost no stores open anymore. Why Reitman’s, why?) Love does not fully describe how I feel about these tops, they are a mix of cotton and something there soft and fit so nicely. They wash and dry great and the wear is amazing. I’ve had them for over two years and they still look great – apart from the white one because really I can’t keep whites white, I just cant. I’m now on the hunt for more tops of this caliber to add to my wardrobe because I really can’t have enough. I did grab some from Joe Fresh, and with 100% cotton they were great for the price ($5 on clearance) but I’m not a fan of the fit, they are still a bit loose on me even at a small size. If you have a favourite long sleeve tee that doesn’t break the bank please let me know.

Hoodies/Sweaters

I am very persnickety about temperatures if it’s one degree too much then I’m hot and uncomfortable, I’ll start to get a headache and feel nauseous if I’m too cold well then I’m just straight uncomfortable all around. I tend to travel with a sweater just in case, I swing to one way too much. If it’s cold in the office or outside then I’ve got my trusty sweater, if it just happens to start raining with then I’m good too. And like wise if I get too hot then the sweater gets removed. Though most times I tend to have it on.

Scarves

These and hoop earrings are my favourite accessories. So I tend to collect or gather them. Because the majority of wardrobe consists of neutral colours, sometimes the scarf I wear will be the only colour thing in my outfit. I’m branching out a bit now into patterns and graphics as opposed to just solid colour scarves. I like when the scarves are a nice long rectangular shape, because this gives it more body when they are folded and wrapped around your head. I don’t tend to tie the scarves in any fancy way, mainly because I remove it some many different times throughout the day that have a complicated design wouldn’t make sense. My next foray is blanket scarves, I’ve added one to the collection and am on the lookout for more.
