15 Makeup Brands I Want to Try

May your day be as flawless as your makeup
— #bossbabe

Have you ever watched a Youtube video or read a blog post that contained products from a brand you’ve never heard of? You hear the reviewer rave about the brand, and you become intrigued. You open a second web window so that you can check out their website and see what they’ve got. The products look good and the price isn’t too bad. Now you want to try out this brand, after all variety is the spice of life and you can never have too many spices.

Most if not all of these brands I’ve heard about through Youtube, some I found out about from reddit boards but the majority is from watching and hearing about these products in videos.

It’s fascinating and pleasurable to me to find and try new products and brands.

I made this list based on the fact that I have an interest in trying out the products that each brand has, some brands have more unique colours and product concepts than others, however this list was created without consideration of duplications in colour or purpose.

Cozzette

I first heard about this brand from Tina who has a YouTube channel called The Fancy Face, she mentioned that their shadows are excellent quality, I’ve also heard that the same thing about their makeup brushes.

Suva beauty

I’ve had my eye on this company for over a year and have yet to bite the bullet. I almost made a  purchase during their black friday sale which I think was 30 or 40% off. I just didn’t have the budget for it. Hopefully next time they go on sale I can grab a few shadows. I also want to try their hydra cream base, it reminds me a bit of Mac Paint Pots, I don’t know if they work the same way though.

Baroque

This is an Indie brand that I’ve known about since they first launched. They started out with just loose mineral shadows and blushes but have added pressed shadows to their line in the past year and half. I literally have about 18 shades that I want to order from them.  Because this is an indie brand I find that the colours tend to be more unique and nuanced. The shadows are handmade and formulated so more variation from mainstream brands is possible.

I was ready to bite the bullet on black friday but something was funny with the shipping when I tried to check out, so maybe next time around I’ll be able to grab some of the shades on my list.

Edit: It looks like her shop as gone on hiatus. Not sure when she'll be back or if she'll be back. Shoulda grabbed those shadows when I had the chance.

Hotmakeup.com

I heard about this brand from Tina at The Fancy Face, I saw the selection and the price and was intrigued. I appreciate being able to purchase single pan shadows, it really gives the opportunity to customize what you are ordering. If you just want matte shadows or maybe just green shimmer shadows then you have the ability to buy only what you’re interested in. I believe the brand was created by an Instagramer Henry

Belfiore Cosmetics

This is another one that Tina introduced me to.  The colours aren't new or ground breaking but I like trying new eyeshadows and these don't look bad at all from the swatches that Tina did in her video. If you haven't realized already I kinda like eyeshadows, they tend to be the makeup product that I most drawn to. I like all the pretty colours.

Colored raine eyeshadows

I first heard about Coloured Raine because of their lip products, and began to visit their web page regularly when they came out with eyeshadows. The price point for each shadow is pretty good and is on par with Mac and Makeup Geek at $6.99 a pan. Note that is American pricing not Canadian.

Sugarpill cosmetics

This is another company that I’ve been hearing about for years, they now have single pan shadows so you can create your own custom palette which is pretty nice. They do have super bright colours eyeshadows which is what I’m interested in. They have lip products also but I’m not really a lip person I much prefer eyeshadows and blushes over lipstick.

Melt Cosmetics

I’m interested in their eyeshadows and not so much their lip products. As I mentioned earlier I’m not a fan of lip products. I’ve heard rave reviews of the quality of their shadows and really want to try their rust stack and their new gunmetal stack. Some of the colours in the gunmetal stack are gorgeous.  I feel that I would depot them because I don't find the stacks all that practical, it's very different and isn't something you see in the makeup community but storage wise and travel wise I feel that the configurations don't work the best for me.

Lunatick Labs

There’s really only one thing that I want from this brand and it’s their contour palette. Do I need 12 contour shades of course not, but having options never hurt anybody. They have warm and cool shades that you can use depending on your undertone. It’s priced at $75 USD so I would purchase it when it goes on sale, I missed the Black Friday sale, but I’ve signed up for their email notifications so hopefully I’m ready the next time the price lowers a bit.

The Balm

I’m on an eyeshadow palette kick, I heard that their Meet Matt(e) trimony palette was nice and I wanted to try it out. Why just because I have a love for things makeup. They also have single eyeshadows that you can use to make your own custom palette, I of course used Temptalia to figure out which ones were worth getting. I’m just waiting till they have their 50% off sale.

Juvia's Place

Even though this brand is riddled with controversy I still want to try their products. More so because they shadows seem to perform varily well when reviewed, the colours are also nice. The selection in each palette is unique enough that it feels like it's something special to have them in your collection, again I'm drawn to the bright vibrant shades that make up most of their palettes shade selection. I'm not certain what stance to take on their apparent hypocrisy but should I have any problems that will definitely impact any future orders.

Saucebox

This is an indie brand and like Suva Beauty they have larger than average pans. They offer a few pre-made palettes, and often do limited edition variations, they also have single shadows available. So if you don’t want to purchase a palette you can just pick up a few colours to start with.

Zoeva

This brand has been on my buy list for a good minute. When they finally had a sale I wasn’t able to take advantage of it. I really want to try their eyeshadow palettes, I've got my eye on quite a few of their palettes. I'd also like to try their brushes, which I've heard are great quality. Some of them are unique in their shape. I'm not that interested in their blush palettes which is surprising given my love of blushes.

Blue Marble Setting Spray

I heard that this setting spray is amazing if you have oily skin. It was created for use on set by professionals, but like many makeup products has made it’s way down to the average consumer. Since I haven’t been able to find any product that keeps my oil at bay for more than an hour this product is of great interest to me. It’s not too expensive, it does come in varying sizes so you can purchase a smaller size and see if it works, pricing starts at around $13 USD and $17 CDN

Nabla Cosmetics

This is an Italian company that ships internationally. I first heard about it from a Youtube (of course) Syos World. They sell single eyeshadows and blushes as well as other makeup items in compacts. I love the colour selection for their eyeshadows, they're not the typical shadows that most companies have, they actually remind me of pressed mineral eyeshadows. Some of the shadows look duo chrome.
